Driving Performance Through Staff Engagement

A few months back I spoke at CeBIT in Sydney, which is known as the biggest business and technology event in Australia. This year the exhibition saw keynote speakers talking about the latest innovations across a number of industries, so it was good to be part of that.

I firmly believe that a company’s strategy can’t possibly be well executed, if it isn’t clear to absolutely everyone in the business. So I talked about our Strategy Triangle, including how we use staff engagement to drive business performance.

As an example of one of our newer initiatives, we now help staff to build their resumes and put them onto LinkedIn.  After all, if our staff don’t believe that this is THE BEST place for them to build their resumes, then they’ll simply go build them somewhere else!

Smartfleet client Tasmania Dept of Health & Human Services wins the AfMA Fleet Environment Award

We are extremely proud that one of our Smartfleet clients, Tasmania Department of Health and Human Services, has been awarded the 2013 AfMA Fleet Environment Award for the maximum impact in reducing greenhouse emissions. Congratulations to the DHHS for taking a bold initiative towards reducing CO2 emissions.

In 2009, DHHS initiated a RFQ process for an online pool vehicle booking solution. Smartfleet was successful in its bid for the business. DHHS and Smartfleet worked collaboratively to implement a pool vehicle booking system, taking into account any necessary cultural adjustments.

Their strategy to reduce CO2 emissions included:

  1. Reducing fleet vehicles
  2. Moving to greener vehicles
  3. Reducing use of rental vehicles.

The graph below shows that Tasmania DHHS fleet was able to reduce CO2 emissions by 15% since June 2011.

Clearly we consider ourselves to be successful only when are clients are successful.  So while it is always nice to win business, helping our clients achieve their objectives is really our only measure of success.

Post-Election Business Update

As you may have heard, the novated leasing industry was impacted by the proposed Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) changes in July.  I’m pleased to announce that as at the Monday after the election our business had fully recovered and we are essentially back to business as usual.

We are grateful for the support of our loyal clients, all of whom trusted in our logic to continue to offer novated leasing to their staff despite the legislative uncertainty that existed prior to the election.

I suspect their confidence in Smartsalary comes from the fantastic service provided by our engaged staff, who have remained positive throughout!  You see, we decided to retain all of our staff through the recent uncertain times, and they reciprocated by working collaboratively across teams to ensure high service levels.

In addition, we commenced recruitment for a further 20 roles to position ourselves for future growth.  We are pleased to have received almost 1000 resumes for vacancies across the business.   If you are interested in finding out more, take a look at our careers page:

I am personally  very optimistic about the future of the business.  And I wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredibly loyal clients and wonderfully engaged staff.

Election results in: Novated leasing to go ahead!

Savings ahead

Following the 7 September election result, Smartsalary is thrilled to be back to business as usual.

On 19 July, Tony Abbott announced there would be no changes to current Fringe Benefit Tax legislation should his party be elected to government. Further, in an open letter to the car industry dated 3 September, Prime Minister Elect Abbott and Treasurer Elect Joe Hockey again pledged that Labor’s proposed changes to FBT on salary packaged cars would be “null and void”.

Smartsalary will continue to offer novated leases to those who need it most, such as Defence members, teachers, nurses, charity workers as well everyday Australians in the private sector.

Thanks to the support of our clients and loyal staff, we’re really excited about what the future holds for us. In fact, we have been actively recruiting over the past few weeks to ensure that we are well positioned for future growth!

So what does this actually mean for you?

For existing customers with a novated lease, there will be no changes applied to your arrangements whatsoever, and you will be able to take advantage of the FBT savings available under the statutory method.  For anyone interested in getting a new lease, our dedicated team at Smartleasing is ready to help.
